Strengthening the partnership between the United Nations and ECOWAS: The ECOWAS Commission welcomes a delegation from the United Nations

Abuja, 26 July 2024 - The ECOWAS Commission today welcomed a delegation from the United Nations, led by Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.
The delegation, which also included Ms. Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, Assistant Secretary-General for Africa in the Departments of Political, Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO), and Mr. Leonardo Simao, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel, was received by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray.
The Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, and the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Dr. Abdel-Fatau Musah, also participated in the meeting.
Discussions focused on security and sustainable development issues in West Africa, as well as ways to strengthen the partnership between the United Nations and ECOWAS.
This visit marks an important step in strengthening cooperation between the two organizations, and demonstrates their shared commitment to promoting peace, security and sustainable development in West Africa.
