ECOWAS Empowers Entrepreneurs in Off-Grid Solar Energy through ROGEAP Project

ECOWAS, in partnership with Ecobank Nigeria and the World Bank, is empowering over 50 entrepreneurs through training focused on small and medium-sized enterprises, specifically in the off-grid solar photovoltaic sector in Nigeria. This initiative is part of the Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project (ROGEAP), which aims to promote regional market development for autonomous solar systems.

The capacity-building workshop, launched by ECOWAS Commissioner for Internal Services, Professor Nazifi Abdullahi Darma, on March 10, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria, will run until March 12, 2025. Upon completion, participants will gain a solid understanding of the ROGEAP subsidy mechanism, financing options, and off-grid solar photovoltaic technology, as well as tools to develop business models and market expansion strategies.

Ecobank Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the sector and strengthening its collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission. ROGEAP is a jointly funded project by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund, and the Netherlands Directorate General for International Cooperation, covering 19 countries, including ECOWAS member states.
