ECOWAS Commission and World Bank Discuss Regional Electricity Access Project




H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, met with a World Bank task team led by Mrs. Elise Massan Akitani, Senior Energy Specialist, to discuss the implementation of the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Access Project in West Africa (ECOWAS-REAP), on 24 July 2024,at Abuja, at the ECOWAS HQ -


The meeting, held at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, focused on the first phase of the project, which aims to increase access to the electricity network in Guinea-Bissau, Mali, and The Gambia. The project is financed by the World Bank with a total funding of 225 million US dollars.


The President of the Commission was joined by Mr. Jerome Boa, Director of External Relations, and Mr. Bayaornibè Dabiré, Director of Energy and Mines of the ECOWAS Commission. The meeting provided an opportunity for the team to discuss the project's progress, address challenges, and explore ways to enhance its implementation.


The ECOWAS-REAP project is a critical initiative to improve access to electricity in West Africa, and the ECOWAS Commission is committed to working closely with the World Bank and other partners to ensure its success.
