ECOWAS and UN Strengthen Ties in Political Cooperation, Security, and Human Development



The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Omar Alieu Touray, met with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, H.E. Amina Mohammed, on January 10, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria, to bolster existing bilateral ties between the two entities.


This meeting aims to enhance cooperation between ECOWAS and the UN, particularly in areas such as security, human development, and governance. The two organizations have already collaborated on several projects, including counter-terrorism efforts and promoting democracy and human rights.


ECOWAS and the UN share common goals, including promoting peace, security, and development in West Africa. The meeting between the two Organisations

seeks to strengthen cooperation and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
