ECOWAS builds capacity of auditors on maritime safety vessel inspection




As part of the ECOWAS project SWAIMS (“Support to West Africa Integrated Maritime Security”), funded by the European Union, the Interregional Maritime Security Institute (ISMI) of the Regional Academy of Maritime Sciences and Techniques (ARSTM) of Abidjan, organized in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) from June 20, 2022 to July 8, an online seminar on the theme: "CONTROL BY THE FLAG STATE AND CONTROL BY THE 'PORT STATE'. Aimed at officers of the ship inspection and maritime navigation regulation services under the Maritime Administration or who plan to assume such responsibilities, twenty-six (26) auditors, from ECOWAS member states and Mauritania, are taking part in this training, which aims to strengthen their capacities in terms of ship inspections and maritime navigation safety. The different topics covered are led by experts of different nationalities, all consultants to the IMO. This training is funded by the European Union. This training session in the field of flag state control (FSI) and port state control (PSC) is carried out with the technical and financial support of the IMO, which has just supported the Master 2 program in Law and Safety of Maritime and Oceanic Activities (DSAMO) organized by ISMI.
